The history of the M 635 CSI

With the M635CSi, BMW ushered in a special era of luxury and high performance starting in April 1984. The basis was the legendary M88 engine, which was used for the first time in the M1. This four-valve engine was slightly revised and equipped with two overhead camshafts (DOHC) and six individual throttle valves. Through the revised cylinder head and the new fuel injection system, the engine power was increased by another 9 HP compared to the M1. The M CSI was complemented with a reinforced manual sports transmission from Getrag. The rear axle received a lamella limited-slip differential with a 25% lock-up rate. The chassis was additionally lowered by 10 mm, including reinforced stabilizers. Of course, the braking system was also adapted to sporty needs. ABS was standard equipment.

Paul Bracq was responsible for this timeless and already very advanced design at the time.

In motorsport, the M635 CSI continued the successes of its predecessor - the 3.0 CSL. The 635CSi was able to celebrate victories at the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps in 1983, 1985, and 1986, as part of the European Touring Car Championship (champion in 1981, 1983, 1986).

"Sharknose" or "Bayern-Express" were the nicknames given to this sports car. With a production runSince over 13 years, the first "Sechser" is the longest-produced series of BMW. History of the offered M 635 CSI This "matching" number BMW M635 CSI was delivered in Rome / Italy and registered with the license plate ROMA 42639 H to Mr. Armando B. on April 19, 1985. Thus, this BMW belongs to the coveted and original first series without catalytic converter. Within Rome, the owner changed in 1996 to Mr. Giuseppe V., who sold this BMW to a prominent collector in Rome in 2002. It still bore its Roman license plate. In 2017, we acquired this "Sharknose" for the first time with a mileage of just under 79,000 km. The storage damages were carefully repaired by us, and it subsequently moved to another significant collection in Cologne. Over the years, it was driven more here, and the odometer now shows 83,140 km. Delivered in the metallic color "Diamantschwarz 181," with matching black leather interior 0203 and manually adjustable sports seats, four electric windows, ABS, and without radio (!). The first owner probably wanted to enjoy the soothing sound of the M88 engine, and all subsequent owners did the same. The onboard computer is free of pixel errors, and the function tester shows no faults. The engine starts immediately on first demand, and the transmission and brake system are perfect. The paintwork is excellent. The clear coat has been renewed over the years. There are hardly any criticisms of this vehicle; the history is complete and traceable. Currently, we possess German registration papers, and copies of the Italian registration documents are also available.Further, there is an operating manual for this vehicle.

We are pleased to offer a rarely seen, authentic, and well-maintained BMW M 635 CSI on consignment.
