Description of the model

The F512M represented a special edition of Ferrari's Testarossa and 512TR models, which had their roots dating back to the mid-1980s or even earlier, in terms of mechanical design.

In the autumn of 1994, Ferrari unveiled the F512 M, signifying a modified version of the 512. This iteration saw significant enhancements across the board: improvements to the power-to-weight ratio, styling upgrades while retaining the original Pininfarina design essence, and a notable increase in aerodynamic efficiency. The adoption of faired-in headlights in place of the previous pop-up ones and a redesigned rear with smoother contours and color-matched bumpers marked significant aesthetic changes. Additionally, the inclusion of body-color for the engine cover and quad round taillights further modernized the appearance.

By 1994, the Testarossa had been in production for a decade, facing escalating competition from Lamborghini, Porsche, and newcomers like the Acura NSX. To maintain its competitive edge, Ferrari introduced the F512 M as a final iteration of the Testarossa platform before the debut of the 550 Maranello. Unlike previous evolutions, the leap to the F512 M was substantial, evident in both exterior and interior modifications. The fixed headlights, redesigned front bumper and grille, and round taillights echoed styling cues from contemporary Ferrari models.

Internally, the F512 M underwent significant mechanical refinements. Updates to the suspension with gas-filled shock absorbers and the inclusion of a Bosch ABS system improved handling and safety. The engine retained its cubic capacity and fuel injection system from the 512 TR but received internal upgrades, resulting in a power increase to 440 brake horsepower. Components like titanium alloy connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, and a lightened crankshaft contributed to the enhanced performance. Furthermore, a new stainless steel exhaust system was installed to further boost power output.

Production of the F512 M ceased in 1996 with a total of 501 units manufactured, including a limited allocation of 75 for the U.S. market. The F512 M quickly gained recognition as a collectible model, thanks to its blend of performance, aesthetics, and exclusivity.
