Historie der BMW E9 Cabriolets

Die Fa. Karmann baute von 1968 bis 1975 die E9 Coupe’s für BMW. In dieser Zeit entwarf Karman ein E9 Cabrio als Modell und stellte es BMW vor. Diese Idee fand bei BMW aber wenig Anklang, da der Wettbewerb die Fa. Baur schon ein fertiges 02-Cabrio 1968 marktreif hatte. Ein Jahrzehnt nach Einstellung der E9 Produktion, nahm Dipl-Ing. Jürgen Dreschel (als damaliger Präsident des BMW E9 Clubs) diese Idee wieder auf und entwickelte ein BMW E9 Cabrio erstmal für sich selbst. Weitere Inspiration erhielt Dreschel sicher vom ersten Deutsch-BMW Cabrio, welches 1969 in Köln entstand. Auf der Suche nach Perfektion, Harmonie, Stil und Elegance verwendet er das Cabrioverdeck vom E30. Diese Version hatte den Vorteil, daß das Verdeck beim Öffnen komplett "verschwand". Dies ist -neben der ausgeklügelten Versteifung des Cabriolets- einer der großen Vorteile gegenüber den Deutsch Cabriolets und den späteren "wilden" Cabrio-Umbauten von einigen Karrosseriewerkstätten im In- und Ausland. Von dem von ihn entwickelten Bausatz waren 8 Stück lizensiert. Diese wurden dann sofort von weiteren Coupé Freunden erworben und unter der Führung und Kontrolle von Jürgen Dreschel im Laufe der Zeit gebaut. Der Prototype der BMW E9 Cabriolets befindet sich ebenfalls im Besitz vom Eigentümer der Scuderia Sportiva Colonia, die Nummer 2 steht im Technik Museum in Sinsheim. In der Oldtimer Praxis wurde im Jahre 1991 ausführlich über Jürgen Dreschel und seine Cabriolet berichtet. In 2021 wird das Magazin "Motor Klassik" den Prototype des Dreschl Cabriolets mit einem einzigartigen Jaguar XJC Cabriolet vorstellen.

Jürgen Dreschel nannte seine Cabriolets treffenderweise: „Eines der schönsten Cabrios, die BMW nie gebaut hat“.

Die Nummer 6 ging an einen BMW Enthusiasten in Süddeutschland. Im Laufe der Jahre entstand mit Hilfe eines örtlichen namhaften Karrosseriebetriebes und unter Weisung von Dreschel persönlich ein weiteres phantastisches Exemplar eines E9 Cabriolets. Scuderia Sportiva Colonia hat sich über die Jahre als Ansprechpartner für BMW E9 durchaus einen Namen gemacht und so hatten wir die Ehre, dieses aussergewöhnliche Cabriolet nach fast 30 Jahren von diesem Besitzer zu erwerben.

Die handwerkliche Ausführung des Cabrioumbaus ist perfekt und komplett mit Photos dokumentiert. In der Farbe Nautikblau wurde dieses Cabrio seiner Zeit lackiert und noch heute wirkt das Fahrzeug, als wenn es frisch aus der Lackiererei kommt. Die dreiteiligen 16"BBS Felgen sind ebenfalls in Wagenfarbe lackiert. Ein M30B35 3.5 Liter Motor mit Katalysator aus dem Jahre 1986 mit 211 PS ist z.Zt verbaut. Im Zusammenspiel mit dem 5-Gang Getrag Getriebe garantiert er für phantastische Fahrleistung. Bilstein Stoßdämpfer und eine modifizierte Bremsanlage verrichten in Punkto Sicherheit und Komfort einen hervorragenden Job. Zusätzlich ist eine sportliche Auspuffanlage mit 2 Endrohren montiert. Im Innenraum ist ein hellgraues sehr hochwertiges Leder verwendet worden, welches noch heute einen neuwertigen Zustand vermittelt. Ein formschönes Takata Petri Sportlenkrad rundet das Bild ab. Das Verdeck ist völlig in Ordnung, die Heckscheibe neu poliert. Der letzte Eigentümer hat dieses Cabriolet im Laufe der Jahrzehnte nur bei nachgewiesenem schönen Wetter und zu außergewöhnlichen Events bewegt. So kamen im Laufe der Jahre nach der Aufbau und Technikrestauration nach seinen Angaben ca. 20. - 30.000 Km zusammen. Einer der Gründe, warum dieses Fahrzeug auch heute noch in diesem sehenswerten fast makellosen Zustand ist. Das Fahrverhalten dieses Cabrios ist grandios. Die ausgeklügelten Versteifungen vermitteln in jeder Situation ein sicheres Gefühl.

The Karmann company built the E9 Coupe’s for BMW from 1968 to 1975. During this time, Karman designed an E9 convertible as a model and presented it to BMW. However, this idea was not well received by BMW, as the competition ( the company Baur) had already finished the serie 02 convertible in 1968. A decade after production of the E9 was discontinued, Dipl-Ing. Jürgen Dreschel (as the then President of the BMW E9 Club) revived this idea and first developed a BMW E9 convertible for himself. Dreschel certainly received further inspiration from the first German-BMW convertible, which was created in Cologne in 1969. In search of perfection, harmony, style and elegance, he used the convertible top from the E30. This version had the advantage that the top "disappeared" completely when it was opened. In addition to the ingenious stiffening of the convertible, this is one of the great advantages over the German convertibles and the later "wild" convertible conversions by some body shops at home and abroad.

8 pcs BMW CS or CSI have been built under this license. These were then immediately acquired by other E9 coupé friends and built over time under the leadership and control of Jürgen Dreschel. The prototype of the BMW E9 Cabriolet is also owned by the owner of Scuderia Sportiva Colonia, number 2 is in the Technik Museum in Sinsheim.

In 1991, the magazine « Oldtimer Praxis » reported in detail about Jürgen Dreschel and his convertible. In 2021 the magazine "Motor Klassik" will present the prototype of the Dreschel convertible coupled with a unique Jaguar XJC convertible.

Jürgen Dreschel aptly called his convertibles: "One of the most beautiful convertibles that BMW has never built".

Number 6 went to a BMW enthusiast in southern Germany. Over the years, with the help of a well-known local body shop and under the direction of Dreschel personally, another fantastic example of an E9 convertible was built. Scuderia Sportiva Colonia has made a name for itself over the years as a contact for BMW E9 and so we had the honor of purchasing this extraordinary convertible from the owner after almost 30 years.

The craftsmanship of the convertible conversion is perfect and fully documented with photos. This convertible was painted in the color nautical blue of its time and even today the vehicle looks as if it has just come out of the paint shop. The three-part 16 "BBS rims are also painted in the body color. An M30-B35 , 3.5 liter engine with catalytic converter from 1986 with 211 hp is currently installed. In conjunction with the 5-speed Getrag transmission, it guarantees fantastic driving performance. Bilstein shock absorbers and a modified brake system do an excellent job in terms of safety and comfort. In addition, a sporty exhaust system with 2 tailpipes is installed. A light gray, very high-quality leather has been used in the interior, which still looks as good as new today. A shapely Takata Petri sports steering wheel rounds off the picture. The convertible top is completely in order, the rear window has been re-polished. The last owner only moved this convertible over the decades when the weather was proven to be good and for extraordinary events 20. - 30,000 km altogether, one of the reasons why this the vehicle is still in this remarkable, almost immaculate condition.

The driving behavior of this convertible is terrific. The ingenious stiffeners convey a feeling of security in every situation.
