The Pershing 43 HT yacht has all the right moves.
The Pershing 43 measures just over 45 feet in length and it ticks just all the right boxes from her ultra-large swimming platform up to the perfect styled and comfortable hard-top.
The quality and seakeeping of a Pershing makes brands like Princess, Sunseeker and Fairline to inferior products.
The salon settee doubles as a dinette with convertible table.
The whole helm/cockpit area is a treat to the eyes. In addition to the helm seat, there's a massive, semicircular settee that will comfortably seat eight. The new grey-upholstered sunlounge aft also is roomy enough for the whole crew. -Actually we have re-upholstered all the exterior cushions with grey Sunbrella® fabric and white stitching.- The curved side struts of the fiberglass radar arch (which also form the frame for the layered safety-glass windshield) act as supports for the sliding fabric top that opens and closes the roof in seconds. The wetbar on starboard side is equipped with a sink and the typical Pershing style top loader refrigerator and icemaker. Storage and a trash bin are found underneath.
The dashboard is totally new from the paneling itself to her switch gear. The deep piano black high gloss panels were delivered by crafted.in.the.netherlands and we completed them with all new switches, knobs and usb charger-outlets. S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G !
Farther aft, the swim platform is bisected by a remote-controlled, blacked stainless steel and teak passerelle with heavy duty lift capacity for your dinghy. The black coated stainless just looks awesome and on our Pershing we gave all extra details on the rooftop the same black treatment. You can see that it's eminently practical. Besides functioning as an extendable boarding platform - invaluable in stern-to berthing - it can tilt up or down, which means it can serve as a handy hold-down for a dinghy or water toy (the platform is load-rated for up to 680 kg), therefore eliminating the need for chocks. The teak-planked swim platform also serves as the overhead for a humongous stowage area.
The whole aft cockpit sole, incidentally, comes up as a pair of hatches for even more stowage. Engine room access is here also and it's an easy climb down. Inside, there's plenty of room. There's no place you can't get to easily, including the outboard sides of those big MAN engines. This is one of the few cruisers in this size range that l wouldn't hesitate to perform maintenance functions on after a hard run, without worrying to get burned.
The side decks are wide enough for easy access forward (a deep nonskid helps) The stainless railing is Pershing firm and towards the nose a 1200-watt Lofrans windlass feeds rope and chain into a massive, self-draining and easily accessible chain locker. The Lofrans also is equipped with a manual backup.
Italian-accented styling comes into its own belowdecks. The cabin is all sweeping curves and painstakingly hand-varnished wood finishes. Most of it is cherry wood and the white isn’t actually white. A closer look tells a beautiful finish in metallic pearl white-ish. Flanking the companionway steps is the guest stateroom to port and the day head to starboard. Other than the outstanding carpentry and finish (the doors are solid wood), what struck me here is that all the doors, including the head's, are equipped with key-operated locks. Privacy is definitely assured.
The galley encompasses the whole portside of the salon, and behind its polished cherry cabinetry and on its Corian countertop is enough space and working room to gladden the heart of any chef. Notable amenities in the galley are the extractor fan - a touch rarely thought of in these yachts - and a 200-litres, restaurant-sized, stainless steel refrigerator/freezer.
A QUALITY YACHT
The forward master stateroom is as large as any I've seen in a yacht over 50 feet. Its pedestal-mounted double berth is easy to access from three sides, and there's plenty of drawer storage beneath it. There are cedar-lined hanging lockers, too. The head has a shower stall with plexiglass doors in high gloss polished stainless frames. The use of Tecma toilets will ensure trouble free use year after year.
Those interested in how a boat is put together will be pleased with this one. While the lay-up - E-glass and Aramat, vinylester resin, longitudinal and transverse reinforcements stratified with a polyurethane core - is par for the course for a quality yacht, it is all pulled together by the SCRIMP system. This vacuum-infusion process was developed and patented by TPI Technologies of Warren, R.l., and subsequently licensed to builders of top-line yachts. Essentially, SCRIMP assures the correct resin-to-glass ratio, which is responsible for the hull's strength and impact resistance. It's an expensive and skill-intensive process that results in a hull that is as close to bulletproof as possible.
The fact that our Pershing was able to turn around in our backyard effortlessly, in spite of contrary wind and current, says a lot about the efficiency of the Rexroth Mini-Mirex electronic controls, the hefty SBM Nibral 24" x 42" four-blade props and the very powerful Sidepower thruster. Our boat is also equipped with trolling valves, which meant I could run the engines at a low rpm without having to kick them in and out of gear. And the layout of the controls at the helm was such that the whole operation could be done with one hand. (I could wrap my palm around both single throttle/shift controls, and the thruster switch was designed to a thumb-stretch away in these new panels) Unlike some electronic controls, the Rexroth system is not overly slick; there's a bit of resistance between neutral, forward and reverse preventing sliding in and out of gear by accident.
