Maserati vs Apreamare, both Wolfs in sheep’s clothing.
The Apreamare 12 Cabinato hard-top is a rare find.
If you like fast cars without the screamy appearance they all have you most likely drive a Maserati. If you like to have a seriously fast boat without the plastic appearance most yachts like Princess, Fairline, Sunseeker and more have you could feel very well in the stylish Apreamare.
There is the Cabinato series and the disliked semi-cabinato series and the first one mentioned just doesn’t come often on the market since the Cabinato owners just tend to keep them. They offer a whole lot within the practical length of 12 metres.
Our beautiful Cabinato hard-top comes with some very pleasant options like a Mase 9 Kw genset, air conditioning, heating a full stainless hydraulic Besenzoni gangway, a bow-thruster, double fridges and freezers. Of course a good set of electronics with new radar and touch plotter raise the level a bit more.
She is equipped with twin 480 hp Volvo Penta TAMD75p diesels. The turbocharged, in-line, six-cylinder diesels are a perfect fit to shoot the 12m Cabinato to its top speed of 33 knots. The freshwater cooled engine gives you superior acceleration and are very smooth and clean, with no exhaust smoke blowing out the stern.
Even with no trim-tabs applied, she planed with little effort. The bow stalls a little from zero to plane. If you use the trim-tabs just a little you are rewarded with an even more smoother transition than she already does. I found choppy waters churning up the rest of the river Maas boating traffic, but the bow entered the seaway softly and effortlessly. Her 17-ton displacement helped provide a solid feel as I reached a top speed of 31 knots in the medium chop. Expect a comfortable cruising speed in the mid-20 knot range.
Sound is kept in the engineroom and out of the cockpit by lead-lined foam insulation and gaskets that line the engine compartment. Our sound readings did not exceed 71 decibels.
The hull is designed with a fine entry forward that transitions into hard chines aft. The hull shape is deceiving. The rounded stern gives the illusion of a soft chine aft, but the hard chine of the hull is carried aft and can be seen lurking just under the water.
She tracks and turns well at slower speeds. The steering is tight and she backs easily, making docking in a tight slip fairly painless. The bow thruster is super powerful which helps in windy conditions.
Her hull is laid-up with solid fiberglass, although some coring is used on the deck. Gelcoat work was well executed and created a reflection-like finish. The stainless is spotless and polished by us to a mirror finish, the craftsmanship is in every detail.
The deck hardware and layout demonstrate the Sorrento, Italy, yard's experience. For more than four generations, Aprea Mare has quietly built everything from commercial fishing boats to the models that make up the company's range today. The teak decks (the best nonslip there is if you are up for a little more maintenance) are very, very wide and make going forward easy. No matter where you are on the side decks, there is a handhold within reach. The welds on the 2-inch stainless steel are flawless; no rough seams between the stanchion and the railing. They are high enough to provide a secure passage. Forward, the stainless steel electric windlass sits on a lowered platform in the middle of two lockers serving a stainless-steel anchor roller. A local remote is found plus a remote panel is at the helm station. A fully new upholstered seating is integrated in the salon deck front section with a very comfortable seat for four. A super large sunpad stretches across most of the forward cabin trunk. All new of course.
The desired-by-everyone hard top is both practical and stylish, no more hassle with covers, no more buying new sets of covers, zippers etcetera. The integrated sunroof in the hard-top slides open easily for sun and fresh air. Below the top a very spacious dinette is completed with an electric up/down dining table and creates an ideal perch for a meal. The wet-bar/outside galley is at perfect height and is fitted with an electric grill. Underneath there is a fridge and a full size freezer. The storage outside and under the seats is nowhere to be found. The helm seat width is wide, providing enough space for a companion to ride shotgun. Seating on deck is curved around the transom. A teak step leads down to the huge teak grate swimming platform with ladder. All woodwork has been sanded by us to zero and re-varnished in a 2k clear coat that holds for decades.
The all new dashboard was designed and built by craftedinthenetherlands® and is the cherry on top of the already beautiful and spacious cockpit. The high gloss piano black panels are completed with all brand new switches, gauges and lights. G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S
Electronic wise we have a large Garmin full colour chart-plotter, broadband radar, autopilot, autopilot wireless remote(very clever since you have this super seat on her bow), depth sounder and VHF.
The forward windshield is made out of a one piece glossy stainless frame with two front glasses and two large wipers that easily slap water aside. The line of sight while seated or standing is more than excellent.
Interior volume is massive because of her beam and feels equal to a much larger vessel. A few steps down from the helm deck leads into the crafted with precision main cabin. Beautiful satin finished woodwork, teak and white-ash laid striped floor. An L-shape settee on the port side is large enough for lounging with the Sunday paper, delaying the trip back home while the boat tugs at her anchor. The table is lifted/lowered with the touch of a button that sets an electric motor to work. The galley is in front and includes a two zone HOB and powerful extractor fan that benefits the remote controlled marine diesel generator. Furthermore you find Corian countertops, a deep double stainless sink, large fridge/freezer and lots and lots of cupboards. All panel knobs and rings have been replaced by shiny chrome ones.
A surprising feature on a boat this size is the double bathroom and head layout. Often, express-style boats need to be at least 15 metre long before they include a dry-head arrangement. This two cabin, two heads Apreamare just ticks all boxes.
The forward stateroom includes an offset double berth, a seat and hanging lockers. Fresh breezes flowing in the interior will be plentiful thanks to massive stainless opening ports and an overhead hatch. The satin-gloss finish of the woodwork and the boat's quality fabrics are above average.
The guest cabin is found on starboard side and has the typical twin-berth layout that can be converted to a double. The special mattress and infill board are present. Good space for clothing and even a small seat are crafted in this very nice cabin.
Our Apreamare comes with brand new exterior cushions, new painted woodwork, refurbished solid teak decking, new dashboards, antifouling, lines and fenders.
She’s well worth viewing!, comes fully serviced on engines, genset and airconditioning as well. Shipping worldwide.
