Initial photos may look like stock photos, but they are of Archimedes during her Atlantic Crossing
With a Category CE A rating, numerous redundant systems, a self-righting hull, a 2,500 nm range at a 9kt cruise and a 700 nm range at 15kts , and fully set up to bring to the Arctic or South Pacific, Archimedes is the perfect platform for those who want to cross oceans and explore the world in any climate, with limited crew. Many additional options have been added to make the boat a true expedition yacht.
Easily setup for a couple to cruise the world, she offers a 360 degree view from within the pilothouse, and has comfortable seating arrangement for up to 12 on the upper-deck.
Archimedes was commissioned for a customer who had aspirations of taking their motorboat from the Netherlands to Greenland, then to Maine, and they were able to do so as soon as she was completed at Elling Shipbuilding.
Some notable features include
Stepping onto the large Flexiteek swimplatform, you have a large opening hatch to enter the primary mechanical space on the starboard side under the stairs, which houses the generator, air conditioning and heating systems, watermaker, and back-up (Get-Home) Volvo Penta D2-70 engine. Access is incredibly easy and the space is easy to enter completely and work on systems.
Centerline is a large tender garage, capable of fitting a Williams Jet Tender 325 with a large Williams System which retrieves or launches your tender. With 4 opening hatches under the tender space is the Seakeeper 9 Gyroscope, and with no tender in the garage there is plenty of space.
On the Port Side of the aft deck is another set of stairs, where the crew quarters and additional mechanical space exists. Within the Crew Quarters, which has a twin bed but a drop down panel to create a much larger berth, exists the lithium battery and electrical system. The 3 Mastervolt Lithium 24v batteries are under the bunk, and the inverters and chargers are also in this space.
With two large stairways, you have the option of going up to the aft deck on either the port or starboard side, with well positioned steps and handrails. Upon stepping onto the aft deck, there is a large varnished table in the center aft with ample seating, between the directors chairs or the forward facing sofa. You have additional seating against the pilothouse, as well as capstans on the Port and Starboard sides.
Access to the Foredeck is from either the Port or Starboard side walkway from the aft deck, both of which have high railings and ample space. Upon getting to the Foredeck, there is a large sunlounger on the pilothouse, with a couch and comfortable seating facing forward. Just forward of the couch is a large forepeak locker with two separate opening hatches, so it is incredibly easy to fit all lines in fenders in the locker. Ahead of this on the bow, you have two separate windlasses, one hydraulic and one electric, so deploying the anchor is simple regardless of power.
When entering the pilothouse, the first things that you immediately notice is the phenomenal amount of light, and extreme quality of the woodwork. There are full windows all the way around the pilothouse, with the forward center window which can be opened manually, and if you need additional airflow, the hermetically sealed sunroof can be opened electronically, and is oversized and makes it feel as though you are outside. To port, you have a nice dining area with another beautiful table and L-Shaped couch, with a bookshelf and storage just aft of the sofa. On the starboard side, there are 3 drawers with 2 cabinets and a Schreuder&Waterman Wine Cooler underneath. Just forward on the starboard side is another L-Shaped Sofa, so seating around the pilothouse is ample for as many guests as you could want to accommodate.
Just ahead of the Dining and Upper Salon is the Helm Station to Starboard. The Captain and Co-Captain seats offer 360 degree visibility, and easy access to all carling switches and electronics from either seat. On the port side, there is additional sofa seating with storage just forward, so passengers also have forward facing seating. This area is perched above the lower salon, so the ability to hear discussions from below is incredibly helpful.
Situated between the Master Stateroom and the Salon is the incredibly well equipped galley. With an abundance of storage inboard and outboard from the pass-through in the galley, provisioning is a breeze. To starboard she has a 4 Burner Miele Induction Cooktop built into the marble countertop. Under the cooktop is the silverware drawer, and under that drawer is the Bosch Convection Microwave Oven, capable of cooking a fine meal, or for use as a microwave if you are on the move. To the left of these items, and well positioned between the sink and the Cooktop/Oven is the Bosch Dishwasher, to make light work of all of the cooking which you can do
Nestled behind the Galley is the large Master Stateroom. Upon entering, you have a large vanity to the right, with large overhead cabinets above and a makeup station with a mirror below. On the left, you have a large TV facing the bed, with a large hanging closet just past the TV. Storage lines both sides of the cabin, and all the way aft on the right side is the Master En Suite Head, with a large separate stall shower and sink.
As you go down the staircase from the Pilothouse, you enter the salon. Ample light floods this area, due to the connection to the pilothouse, and to port you have two comfortable seats, with a TV which raises between them. Under the TV is a great storage space, with plenty of space for books, pillows, or blankets. Behind this area heading aft, you would enter the galley and further aft still you would enter the master stateroom.
To Starboard is another dining space, a great space due to the proximity to the galley, as well as the staterooms. Behind the starboard lower salon you would enter a bunk room, with the washer dryer, additional storage, and its own separate head.
Forward of the Salon is the dayhead and VIP Stateroom, which offers ample space and storage with an island berth.
