History of the E-Type
The legendary Sir Malcolm Sawyer is responsible for the 1961-presented Jaguar E-Type, which created one of the most beautiful, impressive, and successful sports cars in automotive history. After Series 1, 1.5, and 2, which were exclusively available with inline-six engines, Jaguar introduced Series 3 at the end of 1970 with the racing-derived and brilliantly engineered 5.3-liter V12 engine with 4 carburetors. The E-Type features disc brakes all around (rear weight-optimized at the differential), as well as double wishbones at the front axle and lower triangular wishbones at the rear axle.
The offered E-Type Cabriolet in detail
The Cabriolet offered here was first acquired by Scuderia Sportiva Colonia in 2012 and has been gradually partially restored over the years: it was repainted; the interior was reupholstered with new black leather; a new Moto Lita wooden steering wheel was installed; the suspension was overhauled; the engine was inspected and resealed, improved "performance air filters" and a sports exhaust system were installed. The highlight is certainly the Cosworth 5-speed gearbox, also installed at the time. With this gearbox, the power delivery and overall performance of the V12 are even more effective. The torque is breathtaking. The Cosworth gearbox was also tested multiple times in racing by Jaguar and used in endurance races.
Additionally, as part of the bodywork work, the stylish "Headlamp Covers" from the first series of the Jaguar E-Type were installed. The second and third series of the E-Types had to be adapted due to American safety regulations.Omit headlight covers. As a result, the front headlights stood somewhat unmotivated "in the wind". We have corrected this stylistic inconsistency with this original version. The beautiful wire-spoke wheels complete the picture. Not visible in the pictures is the replacement of the roof. The customer requested a red roof with matching tonneau cover. As a special treat, there is also the original factory hardtop painted in body color. The history of this Jaguar is almost completely traceable. First delivery in New York/USA in August 1971. According to production records, it is the 27th example of the 3rd series. In the 1980s, this E-Type came into the hands of the M. family from Pennsylvania. From father to son, who took it to England in 2009. We acquired the vehicle from him. The engine is "matching"; the original delivery color was racing green, but the M. family had it repainted in silver metallic in the 1980s. Currently, we have the following vehicle documentation available: original English vehicle registration "UK Registration Certificate," Jaguar Heritage Certificate (production report), and a valuation report from 2021, which certifies this big cat with a grade of 1-. It will be difficult to find a comparable, noble, and handsome V12 of the 3rd series on the market. The previous owner did not quite "warm up" to this extraordinary Jaguar, so we repurchased this dream car after only 300 km driven by him. Starting from February 2023, this vehicle can be viewed in Cologne.
