Attention Breitling collectors: a very beautiful Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute Chrono-Matic with the reference 1809, automatic movement, is for sale. The special feature of this watch is the contemporary condition of the dial and hands!

In the past, Breitling, Heuer-Leonidas, Hamilton/Büren, and Dubois Dépraz joined forces to develop the first automatic chronograph. In March 1969, they introduced caliber 11 "Chrono-Matic," which featured a decentralized microrotor for winding. They made watchmaking history at the same time as Zenith (El Primero). The caliber 14 is based on calibers 12 and 11 but has a 24-hour display and a corresponding different hand train. Like caliber 12, it oscillates at 21,600 beats per hour, making it run slightly faster than the original caliber 11 at 19,800 beats.

The 1809 also received the lightly rotating aluminum bezel introduced shortly before in the 0818 Chronomat, which proved its reliability over 40 years. In total, a 48 mm watch was an absolute sensation in 1970. Even today, 48 mm is considered very large and extremely prominent on the wrist.

At that time, the watch was available in both manual wind and automatic versions. The case was identical in both versions and had a hole on both the left and right sides for the tube or crown. In the automatic version, the crown is on the left; in the manual wind version, it is on the right. The unused opening was sealed with a black plastic cap.

The Breitling Chronomat 1809 offered here is in a beautiful, contemporary condition and wears equally casually on a vintage steel bracelet or a cool leather band.
