Originally commissioned in 1963 by the Canadian Vickers shipyard for the Canadian Coast Guard, Bart Roberts was engineered as a self-sufficient icebreaker and research vessel. This heavy-displacement heritage provides the structural integrity required for high-latitude exploration.
